About Us

The Black Art District Shop is a family-driven space, currently featuring work by a mother, daughter, and cousin: Takeisha, Tylear, and Tywree. Our collection will soon include art from more family members and a few friends as we continue to grow. We believe in community and the power of supporting each other's creativity. By sharing our art, we hope to inspire, uplift, and celebrate the stories and beauty of Black life.

Takeisha Jefferson's powerful visual art explores Black womanhood, family, and cultural legacy. This Michigan-based international photographer and artist, whose journey began in the U.S. Air Force, has shown in over 60 global exhibitions with 6 solo exhibitions. Her Birthright Series and broader work, informed by art history and personal experience, continue earning recognition, including selection for Womxnhouse Detroit 2024 and Photolucida's Top 50 for 2024.

Tylear Jefferson is an emerging artist based in Michigan who began her painting journey in September 2022. Her work captures the emotional depth of Black women, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and community connections. Tylear has quickly established herself in the local art scene. Her first solo exhibitions opens in December of 2024 at the University of Michigan.

Tywree Bailey is a self-taught painter whose work has been exhibited across the United States, including at the Rosa Parks Museum and the Detroit Historical Museum. A native of Michigan, Tywree's acrylic paintings predominantly feature Black women and their families, reflecting her deep connection to her community. As a wife and mother of three, she uses her art to inspire and uplift others, celebrating the beauty and strength of Black life. "I want my paintings to remind people that they are beautiful and capable of achieving anything they set their minds to," Tywree says.
